‘Visitors to Kiel’ Archives

Jimmy King

Jimmy King

No, Jim, don't kick it!! Jimmy King was a 6th man type Laker guard who later went on to coach at Louisville before Denny Crum...his alma mater, by the way...action from Kiel in January 1964.....

Wilt Chamberlain

Wilt Chamberlain

And he certainly didn't need to stand on a folding chair to do this!!!

Baily Howell

Baily Howell

Detroit's burly forward Baily Howell drives against Wilt in this game from December 1963 at Cobo Hall. Notice Wilt on tip-toes stretching just enough to get the job done!!

Jerry Lucas

Jerry Lucas

Jerry Lucas grabs a rebound in the 1965 NBA All-Star game played at the St. Louis Arena in January..no NBA Weekend Slam Dunk...Three-Point Shot...Legend's game back then...just the real deal and the stars managed to pack the house year after year.

Dick and Tom VanArsdale

Dick and Tom VanArsdale

Like the Smothers Brothers, Dick and Tom VanArsdale (twins, the only pair ever to play in the NBA) headed up the 60's... only these two had to be seperated on the NBA court....here one of them (don't know which!!) drives for two against the Hawks...believe it was Tom..he was a Knick, wasn't he??? Anyway, wonder which one mom liked best?

Rick Barry

Rick Barry

My all-time favorite NBA player...when I thought baseball, I thought of Willie Mays...and when the subject was hoops, the name Rick Barry jumped out...I liked his brashness, his style, his aggressive play and just his overall game...and like the Say Hey Kid, he wore number 24!!

Sam Jones

Sam Jones

Same series, same place....this time it's the Celt's great guard Sam Jones getting off a top of the key shot against the Lakers. The Jones Boys...Sam and K.C. were a handful for any other team's backcourt in the 1960's.........

Elgin Baylor

Elgin Baylor

One of my favorite pics from my collection....a big ragged, but I had to get it on...a super shot from under the basket...at the Los Angeles Sports Arena (loved that clock!)...the great Elgin Baylor for two against the Celtics....fourth game 1966 NBA Finals.

John Havlicek

John Havlicek

Dubbed the greatests 'sixth man' in NBA history, the Celtics John Havlicek drives on Keith Erickson of the Lakers in the 1969 NBA Finals...Hondo played 16 years with Boston, winning 8 NBA rings and was voted one of the top 50 players in NBA history.

Wilt the Stilt!

Wilt the Stilt!
