Harry the Horse is hoarse…

His nickname was ‘The Horse’ for his work under the boards as a former player with the New York Knicks, but as the Hawk’s coach from 1962 to 1965 Harry Gallatin was usually hoarse from yelling at officials from the bench. Gallatin was a sort of ‘local boy makes good’ with Ben Kerner’s team. A Roxana, Illinois native, he was hired away from coaching Southern Illinois Carbondale and took over the Hawk’s as they were coming out of the doldrums of their worst year in St. Louis history. He led the team to the playoffs all three seasons he stayed at the helm, later coached the Knick’s for a few years and retired to the good life in Edwardsville, Illinois.
